How to Dress Business Professional – For Men

As a business professional in the corporate world you need to project a well groomed and clean cut professional image. Use the following steps as a guide to men’s dress clothing and to dressing like a business professional in a corporate environment.

  • Invest in Business Apparel Basics for Your Wardrobe

Men’s dress clothing should consist of the following basics:
1) Well fitting, conservative and solid colored dress shirts.
2) Dress pants in neutral colors such as black, navy, khaki and gray.
3) Dress socks – your socks should not be lighter in color than your pants.
4) A classy dress watch.
5) Comfortable, shined dress shoes in neutral colors such as black or brown.
6) A plain leather belt that matches the color of your dress shoes.

Depending on your work environment, you may want to invest in dressy, high quality silk ties in conservative colors, and one good, well tailored, two or three button suit in a dark color like navy or black. Remember to keep the bottom button of your suit unbuttoned.

  • Evaluate Your Work Environment and Dress Accordingly

Look around at work. Dress a little bit better than people in your work environment. If your work environment is more laid back go for a more relaxed but put together look with nice collared shirts, slightly more casual slacks and a blazer or pullover with loafers completing the look. Talk to a sales associate at a department store if you need some help with picking out clothes that fit a particular look.

  • De-clutter Your Closet

Iron and hang your dress shirts and the coordinating pants together in your closet so you have easy access to a coordinated look when you’re rushing out first thing in the morning.

  • Focus on Being Well Groomed and Polished

Make sure that you get your hair cut and styled regularly, and that you shave and have manicured hands. Avoid overwhelmingly strong cologne and deodorant. Pick hair styling products that work for your hair type and cut. Use moisturizer if you tend to have dry skin. To look polished at all times make sure your shoes are shined and that your accessories match the rest of your look. Carry a professional, new looking laptop bag, and a nice looking pen and pad with you when you travel.

  • Find a Tailor

Well fitting clothes are essential for a professional look. Find a tailor who can neatly hem pants to fit you or make other minor modifications to your clothing such as taking in the waist of your suit jacket or shortening sleeves to fit your arm length. If you are willing to spend a lot more you can purchase custom made shirts and suits.

The Best Men’s Hiking Boots

Men’s hiking boots are highly specific products and should not be purchased without proper research. The boots you’ll need may vary depending on your foot size and structure, your gait, the terrain on which you’ll be hiking, the climate, and the season in which you’ll be traveling. There are some general rules to follow in order to select the best brands and varieties.

1. Select the best boot means knowing your body. If you have a low arch, you will need a boot that props that arch up–or an insole–and gives you the most comfort. If you’re prone to shin splints, you’ll need extra support. If your foot is wide at the sole, you’ll need wider shoes to prevent friction against the side of your feet. The best boot for someone else does not necessarily mean it’s the best boot for you–in fact, it usually does not mean this.

2. Boots should be bought based on the terrain on which you’ll be traveling. For example, in hot and dry desert terrain, a good boot might not be a boot at all, but rather a trail runner that breathes well and offers good support. However, if you plan to do some expeditions on glacier-covered mountains, you’ll want high-top boots with strong ankle support, excellent insulation, and Gore-Tex for water protection.

How to Fix a Hole in Jeans

Don’t throw away those comfy jeans just because they make a ripping sound every time you move. You can probably preserve your modesty with a strategically placed patch.

Cotton Nostalgic Stone Mill Fit Men's Jean

Cotton Nostalgic Stone Mill Fit Men's Jean

  1. Head to a fabric store to buy an iron-on patch large enough to cover the hole. With scissors, trim the patch so that it is about 1/2 inch (12 mm) larger than the hole in every direction.
  2. Center the patch over the hole and pin it in place.
  3. Using an iron, press the patch onto the jeans according to the instructions on the package.
  4. To reinforce the patch, fold the jeans level with one edge of the patch, and whipstitch the edge of the patch to the jeans, making about 10 stitches per inch (2.5 cm). Pull the needle up through both layers of fabric, the jeans and the patch, with the needle at a slant, just a few threads from the edge. Loop the needle over the top of the edge to the back side of the jeans.
  5. When you reach the corner, refold the jeans and continue stitching the next side until all sides are stitched.
  6. Tie a small knot on the inside of the jeans. Snip off the extra thread, close to the knot you just made.

What Can Men Wear With Boots

Just as there is a wide array of boot styles for men, so are there numerous options for apparel that pairs well with them. Because of their versatile nature, denim jeans are least likely to clash with the boots men wear. In keeping with accessorizing guidelines that govern other dress footwear, men are advised to wear belts that match the boots they’re wearing as closely as possible
Material Matters
The fall/winter season opens up the most options for pairing clothes with boots. Corduroy is a versatile material that works well with (coordinating) boots that have heft and either squared or rounded toes. Wool fabrics also look good with boots as long as the refinement of the slacks’ material matches the dressiness of the boots.

Adding items like fine tweed jackets or cashmere sweaters can cause policies to vary; the goal is a “balanced” look. Boots should match leather or suede jackets as closely as possible. While it’s debatable whether any man should ever wear leather or suede pants, matching boots to slacks is advised.

Everything in its Place
Think thematically when choosing clothes to wear with boots. Biker boots weren’t intended to be worn with tuxedos. Hiking boots don’t fit the corporate environment. But dressy shoe-boots do add a refined flair to business suits. And cowboy boots are well-suited to casual occasions. Boots should complement the rest of an outfit, not divert unfavorable attention away from the complete look.

Denim Does the Trick
In many cases, men wear boots to appear more assertive, masculine, relaxed or self-assured. For those reasons, denim is the one fail-safe choice for boot-wearers. The stylish possibilities range from dressy boots with jeans and a blazer to funky boots with jeans and a designer T-shirt.

Raw silk is that one rare fabric that men should avoid wearing with boots of any style.

Size it Up
No matter what, a man must be sure that the legs of the pants he chooses to wear are wide enough at the cuff to fall freely over the tops of his boots. Otherwise he’ll have to deal with the unsightly annoyance of pant legs that need to be tugged down. Also, it’s important to keep proportion in mind: Boots with jutting toe boxes draw awkward attention to the silhouette of slim-legged trousers.

Men’s Overcoat Styles

When the weather gets chilly, layering your clothes will keep you comfortable indoors and out. An overcoat may refer to any kind of coat worn as the outermost garment, usually made of a thick material and covering much of the body. Historically, overcoats marked a departure from more rudimentary cloaks by using full closures and sleeves. Whatever your outfit, whether jeans and a sweater or a sleek three-piece suit, topping things off with a basic overcoat will keep you warm every day of the week.

Fit Lapel Collar Men's Overcoat

The Classic Overcoat
The traditional overcoat is long enough to cover a suit jacket, falling anywhere from just above the kneecap to further down the leg. Pick a wool overcoat to keep yourself warm when temperatures drop, regardless of what you’re wearing underneath. As for fit, a sleek cut with give you a modern silhouette; however, be sure to try on the coat with your bulkiest sweater or suit jacket underneath for a neat fit that doesn’t put stress on the coat’s buttons. Choose a classic overcoat style in a dark color, such as navy, charcoal or black, so that you can rely on its warmth throughout the winter, coordinating it with all your outfits.

The Pea Coat
The pea coat makes a tailored and neat alternative to the more classic overcoat style. The pea coat has a slightly boxier shape and may be single or double-breasted, often with decorative, nautically-inspired buttons. Depending on the coat, it may even have details like toggle fasteners or epaulets. Keep in mind that pea coats are not as long as most overcoats, sometimes hitting just below the waist. You’ll need to make sure that your pea coat comes down at least as low as the bottom edge of your suit jacket for a polished look.

The Car Coat
A variation on the classic overcoat, a car coat has an A-line silhouette, gently draping outward and ending mid-thigh. As its name suggests, the style is excellent for commuters, not as bulky as some other styles, providing warmth and comfort while driving or seated anywhere else. It has a flat, single-breasted front design that doesn’t buckle or restrict movement as a double-breasted closure might. The relatively short length also permits free leg movement when driving. The car coat style is adaptable to either formal or casual outfits; for a sleek and simple effect, select a coat with concealed buttons. For a dressier overall look, opt for more detailed accents.

The Trench
For lighter outerwear, opt for a classic trench coat. First used as military wear in the early 20th century, clothiers such as Burberry have since popularized the coat for widespread use. Trench coats may be single or double-breasted. They come in a range of fabrics, including wool, cotton, poplin or gabardine. Lengths vary from mid-thigh to nearly ankle-length. Trench coats make excellent overcoats for transitioning from fall to winter or winter to spring, and are especially useful on days that are temperate, but rainy.

What Shoes Do Women Wear With Business Suits?

You do not need a ton of shoes to create a fabulous shoe wardrobe for your work suits. Purchasing classic shoes that can mix and match with various suits and fabrics will make dressing easier in the mornings. In addition, keeping minimal work shoes that will complement any pantsuit or skirt suit will leave you with extra room for shopping for chic, after-work, shoes.

The Pump
The basic black pump is an office staple and classy addition to any work wardrobe. Invest in a good pair of shiny black pumps with a 1 1/2 to 2 inch heel, anything taller may leave you cringing by the end of the workday. Pumps are stylish, and compliment any type of pantsuit, such as straight-leg, wide-leg and trouser-leg. The color, black, will match almost any suit, with the exception of brown. Keep up the appearance of the black pump by shining the shoe regularly, maintaining the rubber sole and keeping the shoe in the shoe bag or box when not in use.

The Sling-Back
Wake up your spring suit wardrobe with the sling-back heel. Like the pump, the sling back is classy and elegant; however, it does have more of a warmer weather feel to it; therefore, bring it out during the spring and summer months. During the warmer months your suit colors may lighten so choose one pair of sling-backs in classic black and another pair in nude. The nude will not only elongate your leg in a skirt, but can mix and match with a variety of suit colors.
The Peep Toe
These classy beauties will show off a perfectly polished toe while still maintaining a professional look. The peep toe heel is similar to the pump with the exception of the missing toe section. Peep toe heels are flirty and stylish so play with the different accents, such as bows and intricate lacing, and colors when matching the shoes to the suit. A basic black suit can go from winter to summer with pink peep toe heels, or a leopard print shoe. Before wearing the peep toe shoe to the office, check with your company’s policy on open toe shoes.

Boots
Walk right into fall and winter with an attractive pair of black boots. Office-appropriate boots range from ankle-length for skirts and any height for under pant legs. The boot is appropriate for colder, chilly weather because it will help protect your feet from the elements, and avoid getting ice and snow under your foot when wearing a pump. Purchase a pair of boots that have heel less than 3 inches and are comfortable to walk in throughout the day. Maintain the boots’ exterior with regular wipe-downs, especially in the winter, and keep them in a box or bag when not in use.

What Shoes Does a Man Wear With a Sweater & Pants?

When choosing shoes to match sweater and pants, there are several variables to consider. Wearing a sweater and pair of pants are a versatile clothing combination that can range between casual to semi-formal/business casual. You could even throw on a dinner jacket over a sweater, crisp white button up, and dress shoes to transform it into an even classier outfit. So, consider the situation, outfit, and colors before picking just any pair of shoes

Choose your outfit depending on the event. If you’re going to a nice dinner, you may want to choose some dress shoes. If you’re going to the movies, then fashionable tennis shoes are appropriate. Please keep in mind that there is a distinct difference between fashionable tennis shoes and the kind of tennis shoes that you wear to the gym. Fashionable tennis shoes are visually attractive when paired with an outfit to hangout in, whereas tennis shoes built for actual sports are built for performance than fashion. It is rare to find both. If you’re taking your outfit from day-to-night, prepare to have dress shoes on hand. In the end, it’s better to show up dressed up than dressed down, but we all feel comfortable when we’re dressed appropriately for the event.

Think about color
Whether you’ve chosen dress shoes or fashionable tennis shoes it’s vital to consider color. Navy and brown are a good combination. Black is attractive on most others. Some people can pull off other colors, such as white dress shoes, but this takes awareness of mixing and matching colors, as well as the general social rules. For example, a general rule of thumb is to learn to match your belt with your shoes. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule; however, that takes knowing the rules in order to break them.

Stylish Pregnancy Tips

Maintaining a stylish appearance during pregnancy may seem challenging, but it’s not difficult to do. Many pregnant women think they need to dress in oversized clothing or shell out money for expensive maternity clothes, which is not true. No matter what, comfort is the most important consideration, so keep that in mind when making fashion choices during pregnancy.

Cashmere Thicken Bottoming Shirt for Pregnant Women

Cashmere Thicken Bottoming Shirt for Pregnant Women

Tops and Bras
If you experience leakage during pregnancy, you may be embarrassed should you leak in public. To prevent your shirts from becoming soaked, wear bras meant to absorb leakage, and do not wear tops that are too tight or restrictive on the bust.
Empire-waist and baby-doll style tops are flattering for pregnant women. Buy your empire and baby-doll tops one or two sizes larger than what you would normally wear–there is no need to purchase specialty maternity tops.
Ensure that the tops you choose fully cover your belly. A belly peeking out from the bottom of a top is one of the main fashion faux pas committed by pregnant women. Tunics and extra-long T-shirts will prevent this, and you can even opt to wear short dresses as tops. No one will be able to tell that the shirt was originally a dress, and you won’t have to worry about your belly poking out.
Bottoms
Comfort is key when choosing bottoms during pregnancy. During your last trimester, jeans will most definitely not be doable–even specialty maternity jeans can be uncomfortable. If you really want to wear jeans, choose ones that are very stretchy or opt for denim-style leggings.
Choose breathable fabrics that are not too restrictive and styles that will sit comfortably underneath your belly as opposed to covering it up. Cotton blends are great for pregnant women and make very comfortable skirts, pants and leggings.
Gaucho pants, palazzo pants, maxi dresses and capri-length leggings tend to be comfortable and fashionable.
Shoes
Many women love wearing heels, and pregnancy will not stop shoe-lovers from wanting to wear their favorites. As with bottoms, the comfort of your shoe should determine whether you wear it or not.
During pregnancy, the feet can become swollen. When your feet are swollen, skip the high heels and stilettos, and opt for trendy flats, a midheight heel or gladiator sandals (as long as the straps don’t cut into your skin). If your feet are not swollen, there is no reason not to wear your favorite espadrilles, boots, stilettos or kitten heels. To make your favorite shoes more comfortable, use cushioning inserts.
